Rocking chair for my first grandson

This chair that is sort of a hybrid of a Harvey Ellison design and a Stickley chair that I have built earlier. As the title suggests, I am to be a first-time grandfather soon and I’m proud to say that I made the deadline.
It’s Q-sawn white oak, pegged mortise and tenon joinery, with a suede leather seat cushion.

All the curved pieces were steam bent, and the finish was fumed in a tent for 4 days (we wanted it dark) After rubbing in some Pure Tung oil, I finished it with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal satin topcoat.

It worked out to be pretty comfortable and the son and daughter-in-law are pleased…so that’s all that matters.

Great looking rocking chair! The fuming process seems to have turned out very well!

Excellent job! Surely to be a family heirloom for years to come.

Looks great. That is a winning plan, and it came out perfect.

Nice chair are the pieces with a curve steam bend or just cut in that shape?

Have your say...
