Bud vase from lilac

A 7-inch tall vase turned from a lilac branch. Very challenging. The lilac splits and falls apart easily. This was my fifth attempt.

I love the shape of this…I agree with your comment about it being difficult to work with. Many of my pens split. I do love the smell of it when turning though and the colors are beautiful.

What do you use to hollow them out?

@Bevy: Same here. I started wanting to make a pen but gave up after several fell apart. For both the pens and this vase I used a brad-point bit. For the vase it was 1”.

Lilac… hmmm I should try doing one of my figure carvings with this sometime, the color and grain pattern are fantastic!

Great job, it may have been difficult but the results are well worth the effort. I have not had much success with lilac, but I have some bushes that need pruning so I will keep trying. :)
