I made this table a couple of years ago. The top is Peruvian mahogany (about 20×72”) and the base is cherry. I saved a bit on the cost of the top by gluing 3/8” thick pieces to the bottom edges of a 3/4” board. The seam is visible in places, but the appearance of a 1-1/4” thick solid top is very convincing.
