This box is 7×10x4 and is built with eastern red cedar and spalted maple. When I started to carve it, I got stung by the crazy bug and decided to leave it rough and burn it and see what happens. I really like the black on red with this, and I am definitely going to try it again now that I know what it is going to do.

Awesome job. You should do a blog on the building of one of those.

This is definitely an eye catcher. Beautiful and well done.

I’ve seen a lot of “torched” pine and wasn’t impressed but it worked really well with the sculpted cedar!

Bill, I must say that you are living up to your motto of “putting the mental in experimental.” It is fun for us to see what kind of crazy you are willing to try next. You certainly are fearless. Keep a fire extinguisher near by. Keep boxing and keep posting.

Very nice box and what an amazing idea to burn the wood and it has given it a very unique look. Like all the LJ’s I look forward to seeing what you come up with next…keep those amazing ideas coming.
