This “Yarn Station” was designed using ideas from other LJ’s projects and searching the internet for other designs. The basic change was adding a DVD/CD disc for the yarn to sit/spin on. The base is approximately 4” X 6”. The 1/8” brass rod is 9” long, treaded on one end and secured to the base by a #6-32X1/4, 3 hole T-nut. The height allows for tall cones and skeins to be used. It can be stored inside the base. The guide post is a 2 1/8”long, 3/4” dowel rod, secured to the base by a #8-32X1/4 3 hole T-nut and hanger bolt. The non skid pads are 1 1/2”, self adhesive. The yarn guide is 1/8” brass rod that was bent using the treads on a lag screw as a guide. The recycled DVD/CD has a 3/16” Pop Rivet securing two 1” fender washers. The base is made from 3/4” plywood with at least 3 coats of flat black paint, with one coat of wax. The station can be broken down so that it will fit in a gallon plastic for easy transport.
I have been making and selling these in an effort to help support a local charity. The total cost in materials is about $6, it’s amazing when you add up just the cost of parts.
Thanks for viewing.
