This is not just a posting of a something made of wood but also the memory a little kitten gave to me, my wife and our 5 year old young son.
One week ago today I rescued a kitten that was as cute as could be and my son fell in love with him and named him Cooper. My wife and I already have four cats so were going to try and get his health up to where it should be and help him find a forever home. When I got home with him I quietly opened the container and he slowely walked out and when my son saw him he fell to the floor and played with Cooper. Later that day Cooper climbed up me and rested on my shoulder. The second time we took him to the vet for a follow up the vet kept him in the clinic on an iv for two days. The first day he began to look good but the second day (21-May-2014) the vet called my wife and said Cooper was barely hanging on so my wife took our son and I left work so we could say good bye to him. Minutes after my wife got there Cooper took his last breath in her arms.

Now I had a feeling days before that I should being making a nicer kitten coffin but now I had to rush a quick kitten coffin and the pictures show what I built for him out of plywood with a felt bottom in an hour.

Thanks for reading and may all of you love your animals a little more today!

I thought I would share the frame I made to remember little cooper. This frame was made out of recycled wood.

I made this frame with a 45 degree cut on the outer and inner edges of the frame and to try something different, I made the same 45 degree cut on the 45 degree miters on each corner, But after i glued the frame together i didn’t like it as much as i thought i would, so i added some small scraps of dark walnut to fill those miters and give the frame more of an accent.

After competing the frame I feel it closely resemble the colors Cooper had.

poor little guy. it’s tough for a kid, but good for them… in some way. i think i buried two or three dogs before i was able to drive, and it helped teach me respect for animals. also gives closure. hope your kid is doing well.

Huge animal lover myself so I’ve been where you’re at. It’s awesome that you gave that kitten probably the best week of his life. Karma my friend, you got it.

Always a sad day to lose a pet. Lost my last dog about 8 months ago and still haven’t quite gotten used to being without him.

Always a sad time when you lose a pet as tnwood stated. My complements on taking care of him after he has gone from your life but not from you memories. BTW, that is a beautiful cat.

He was really beautiful.

I’m sorry for your loss. At least his last days were with people that cared and treated him well.

Sorry for your loss, at least he was able to receive your families love for a brief time before the end.

I can’t express my sentiments as well as Marcus did so I’ll second what he said.

Sorry for the loss. I hope your little guy is doing well. My respect goes out to you for taking the time to leave work for the vet visit and taking the time to build a coffin.
