This is a set of bunk beds that I was commissioned to build (my first paying job). It is made from alder with 4 coats of General Finishes Top Coat polyurethane. Joinery is dowels. Had a young man and his wife from Curitiba, Brazil staying with us for a couple of days.
When he found out I was going to start this project he said he wanted to help but knew nothing about woodworking-they ended up staying two weeks. He caught on quick and was a big help(that is Joey in the 3rd picture.
This is the first project that I actually tracked the hours it took me to build – 125 hours.
Customer was very happy with the finished product.

That’s really nice work! Great opportunity to teach someone else, too. Two thumbs up!

Good job. Looks great.

That’s pretty quick 125 hours.
So did you make more than McDonalds wages?

I ask because I am unemployed and considering my options.
I met someone the other day retiring from Custom Furniture making and he said don’t do it.
He told me no one wants to pay what it takes anymore.

So I need to know.

Strong work…great looking bed and a cool story to go along with it.

Totally agree on the design comments above…love the straight lines and simple elements.
