This is turned from catalpa and measures 3.5” tall by 6.25” wide. It is finished with leather dye, lacquer, liming wax, and Briwax. It is really tough to photograph. It has subtle shades of browns, reds and blacks. The flash blows out the colors and highlights the liming wax. It is more pleasing in real life, especially in daylight. All feedback welcome.
I added some new photos in an attempt to show the color better. Sorry Charlie, no pool.

Joe, about a daylight shot outside? I’d love to see this one in natural light. If you have a pool you could take some shots like CharlieM1958.

If you can’t daylight shoot. Try to take a pic with as much light as possible…. then use software to pull the picture out to it’s proper look.
I can’t wait to try this Liming technique! But I’ve got so many other things to get done first.

I’ve noticed that you give all your truly inspired turnings a name. Do you think that I should give my self designed tables, chairs, and other items a name, also? bbqKing.

Hi trifern;
Way cool! I’ve wondered what catalpa looks like.
This is a really great looking bowl, and the finish, WOW.
Excellent!

Very nice, Joe.
Doug beat me to it (using my own project, no less) in suggesting daylight photography. Sometimes a well-lit room with the flash turned off will work well also.

Those new shots are glorious, Joe! Especially the overhead shot. Beautiful and innovative turning as usual.

Joe, assuming that you are using a digitial camera, I routinly take pictures without using thet flash based on how well lit they appear as I look at them thru the camera. If you are not sure take a couple with and without. The built in light meters aren’t necessarly measuring light just from the project but from the entire area. You may or may not find this as something you can use but its probably worth a try. rt

Joe this is another fantastic turning. What color is the dye you used on this one?
I agree with the others here…indoors in a well lit room and no flash works pretty well. I’ve also had real good luck outdoors especially on cloudy days or on the shady side of the house.
Thanks for posting.
