Walking stick, Wood Spirit Carving

I just finished this happy, hiking helper today. I’m not certain of the wood species as this piece was peeled already when a friend gave it to me. The natural color of the wood is very similar to another walking stick that I carved made of Sassafras. This stick has aged for several years, so it is now quite comfortable to carry and leaves no worries of checking. I call this carving “Never Walk Alone”.

Very nicely done. Could have used this ‘guy’ to help hunt Morel mushrooms this year. ;-)

I’d be concerned I’d grab the stick around the face. LOL! Great job, AGAIN,,,,LOL

Thanks guys! DocSavage45, I strategically placed his face where it seems unnatural to grab- really it just worked out that way haha :)

Great job! The detail is extraordinary. Fellow Lumberjock Druid would identify that as FOG Wood (found on ground wood). What finish do you use on your canes/walking sticks?

Thanks for posting!

Thanks everyone!

Leafherder, I finish almost all of my carvings with just a coat or so of spray lacquer. I’m not much into shiny, especially on the faces, so I keep it minimal.
