Another BS Box

I’ll bet y’all think all I do everyday is make BS Boxes and you would be right. Being old and crippled up really doesn’t lend itself for skateboarding or bungee jumping so small wood projects is how I spend my day. I can get really lost in my “Maelstrom of Sawdust” and the shop and my greenhouse are the ways I pass my time. I like trying to discover new designs for the boxes and eat up a lot of wood that goes on to that big forest in the sky.

This is a box out of a piece of Cedar, which is actually West Texas Juniper, is a little different. I had to cut off some of the diameter to get it under my band saw but it’s fun. Drawer is a nice tight fit and slides real well.

The boxes will end up as Christmas presents for all the people I gave cutting boards to last year. They are obligated to take it because it is a gift. I also sell some at craft shows in Nov.

It is just something to occupy my mind and my hands and keeps me from becoming a couch potatoe.

I never turn down a piece of wood when offered. May never use it but I’ve got a rack of scraps, logs, stumps and old fence boards. When I am ready to make something, it’s usually out of this stuff. Then I try to come up with something different. I never know what. I wake up in the night and think about what’s next but then I pee and go back to sleep.

It is nice not having to make something repetitive or someone else idea or have to make money with it…..I can just do my thing.

Nice boxes and doing what you like! If we try to please everyone else; we will never please ourselves at all!

AS a retiree living with a son’s family; along with my wife; I have too many women around!

Sawdust is therapy!

Many small things are more interesting to do than large, long lasting, major projects..
I also make a lot of things without patterns!

Hey Andy,

I thought the Hokey Pokey was what it’s all about. All the time I wasted putting my left foot in and taking my left foot out, I could have been making BS Boxes.

Ralbuck, never complain about too many women around. Who’s gonna do the cooking and cleaning?

Hey Tony,

Your website is wonderful. The boxes are truly works of art. I wish I had that kind of talent. Also wish I had access to some of the really great Aussie wood. And age might be no barrier to creativity but it sure as hell isn’t any help.

Are your boxes produces in any kind of quantity or are the they all one-of-a-kinds?

The pictures on your site have really inspired me to raise my skill level to higher than it has been. I don’t like to copy somebody else work but you have given me some great ideas. Thanks so much for writing and for the wonderful pictures.

Everyone should look in at the boxes you make.

It’s very creative and has a character all it’s own.
