Back in 2010 I built this bed using Matt Berger’s plans found here:
This was back before I had my shop setup the way I wanted and had to make do with a lot of substandard tools and work surfaces. Having my Jet Hollow Chisel Mortiser was a huge help for this project, as it is almost completely mortise and tenon construction. I chose Curly Maple as my wood because I like the look of it. It was finished with some Blonde Shellac sprayed on in the driveway. I have since installed the end caps on the posts that make it look like through-tenons. My wife and I have been sleeping on this bed for the last 3.5 years and we still love it. I highly recommend this build for anyone who likes the style and wants a very sturdy bed.

Great looking bed. I know oak may be the traditional choice for mission furniture, but that’s what’s great about doing your own woodworking – you can make it your own! Wood looks awesome, bed looks great, makes me want to sit down on it and play a banjo!

Nice work on the bed. I like the proportions.
p.s. your cat looks like a ring tailed lemur in that picture.

Thanks for all the comments. I really enjoyed building my bed. I think a good part of that enjoyment came from the type of wood. I love working with maple.
