Going away boxes

Built these two boxes as going away gifts for my Command Sergeant Major and Battalion Commander. The boxes are constructed with Paduak, Zebrawood, and Hickory. Designs on top were added with a Colwood Burner by hand and the finish is 3 coats laquer and 4 coats johnsons paste wax. I love the wood combination but I never realized how finicky paduak is when its cut thin, I had huge issues with the splines as the kept wanting to break. Overall I like how they turned out. Thanks for looking.

Both of these are beautiful boxes and I’m sure they were pleased with them.

mind? Quite to the contrary, I am humbled! Every idea I have had was inspired in what I’ve seen others do. Glad the choice worked for you as well! I am crazy about Paduak, but I have also found that you can’t make good hinges or thin structures with it.

Great looking boxes. The wood burning is a great touch. I love Padauk as well.
