Steering wheel desk

A buddy of mine is an insurance adjuster that spends a lot of time in his vehicle. He told me that twisting his body so that he could write notes, or work on his laptop next to him on the seat was hurting his back. So I came up with this desk, cut out of Baltic birch with a maple ledger that hangs on the steering wheel. It’s based on a version that I saw on the internet. You can hang it over the top or bottom of the wheel. Having a tilt steering wheel is almost a must to get it positioned so you can work comfortably.

Great design. I work in my truck all day to and have the same problem. Looks like a grid solution, may have to give it a try

Maybe that would be safer for the guys that used to pass me on Lake Shore Drive while writing on legal pads on the steering wheel! exelectrician knows the guys I’m talking about!

Looks like a great idea for someone who uses it with the shift in PARK.

Cool idea! Gonna favorite this and make one when my new shop is up. Will be useful while I wait 4 hours for the wife having her dialysis. I do crossword puzzles while I wait and I can identify with the guy who says it’s hard to get comfortable while trying to write in a parked car.

It’s not a good idea. Until you’ve had a trucker texting and easing into your lane, you don’t know the rage one can have when driving anywhere near someone on an electronic device. It’s no favor to a friend to enable him to do this. Pull over and go into a Starbucks or any one of a hundred places with free wi-fi.
