Sand it down and apply a coat of mineral oil on it, I might add a brass ferrule on the bottom as well to keep the wood from getting damaged.l. On other sticks that I have made I have also drilled a hole in the end of the bottom and added a small bolt and sharpened it to a point to use when walking on ice.
