This is a project I designed and made for University. The brief was a reading chair with any theme. Music is my passion but my taste in music collides! I love Irish Traditional Music but I also love Rock music.

I decided to mash the two genres together and came up with the design. The chair ‘Rocks’ and the legs are in the shape of the ‘Irish Harp’. Hence ‘Irish Rock’n Chair’

It is made from Mohogany and locally sourced Spalted Beech with steel bars sprayed gold as the harp’s ‘strings’, also holding the suspended seat in place. Finished in clear varnish.

There is a Celtic carving there in the back rest also which is the symbol for ‘everlasting’ which refers back to the reading chair theme; a good book will have an everlasting effect on the reader.

Can you spot the secret compartment?
