I completed two cedar planters for my daughter’s school auction. They measure about 20-inches square and about the same height. I built them around plastic planters for maintenance and for keeping the soil away from the wood.
The beautiful, clear cedar was donated by a local lumber yard (what a treat to work with this material!). Each kid in her second grade class painted two ceramic tiles with glaze and those were fired by a clay local studio. The kids were very creative and used great colors on their tiles, which ended up looking great against the wood. I bonded the tiles to the wood and finished the wood with a simple oil-based finish.
They were auctioned as a set last weekend for over $2,000, so I felt pretty good about my contribution towards raising some money for her school.
