Here are two woodworking clamps made of maple, maple rods and oak handles, unfinished. I put some paste wax on the threads for lubrication.

Nice.I like the handles. Whenever I have to replace a clamp handle, I make it like yours.
It give a better grip.

The nice thing about making your own is you can make long reach clamps :-)
