First chair

My first shot at building a chair and foot stool. I only took one picture during the build. I should have taken more, I will next time. I’ll even use a camera and not an iphone.

I used white oak, but added walnut for the leg caps on top of the arms and the corbels.

I don’t like leather cushions. Cold in the winter and sticky in the summer. These are covered in a heavy material my wife had left over from one of her sewing projects. Very comfy. I replace a worn out recliner.

My wife wants me to build her a chair just like mine, but with a glider platform. When I do hers I promise to take more pictures.

I welcome any comments, good or bad. Always easier for a third party to see mistakes.

Thanks for looking.

Andy

Nice job! A pair of these are on my short list. Did you do the upholstery yourselves?

Love the chair. I am planning to build one, it is a matter of time and money.

Great job Andy! Looks like a Woodsmith Shop project if I’m not mistaken. VERY well done sir.

Thank you all for the kind words. It was definitely a learning experience, but also lots of fun.

Dan, yes we did our own upholstery. We got the high density foam from a sewing and fabric store and wrapped it with batting after cutting to size. My wife sewed a cover on it, then made the outer “slip” covers for the seat and back with zippers in one end for removing and cleaning.
