I made this mostly for bragging rights. It is twenty inches across, and sounded like a helicopter while it was on the lathe. Got a pic of my oldest holding it for size reference… she’s a bit like calvin from the comics, took about twenty pics to get one without her making a face.

Making these can get intimidating, the log is mounted all wrong, and most of the time is spent turning air space. Yes, it is a bit dangerous, but if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be much fun.

I just told one of my students something similar… “there are times in you life that you will be attempting something that looks absolutely terrifying.” Then I quoted John Wayne – “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway!”

That is amazing and I can just imagine the sound of that piece of wood spinning at speed on your lathe.
