My thirtieth birthday cake for my birthday that was in February this year thanks to the artistic talent of my Brother in law and my Sister.Some how I think they would have been offended if I stuck it on my lathe and turned it. Not to mention the mess it would have made!

Paua Abalone comes stained in a few man made colors here, thought I’d try something different from the natural Paua color’s. I like the red more then any of the other color’s but the natural Paua colors will always be my personal favorite.

The results of a blank of Nz swamp Kauri that was brought from North land New Zealand, now sits on the entrance way hall table at my parents place.

Bowl was turned from a decent kauri laminated block, was a wedding gift for my cousin and his wife in Tasmania Australia.

This piece was a very rare find, never herd of this New Zealand timber before until I brought it off a wood merchant as a wood turning blank. Was sold and sent to the states as a gift. Every now and then as wood workers we find it hard to part with something we have made, whether it be for cash or as a gift, as i’m sure you can understand I found it hard to part with this one!, reminds me of a summer sunset. And for the record no the outer rim was not flat at one end, it’s just how it turned out in the photo(don’t know why!) and its the only photo of it I have.

The results of one of my favorite past time hobby, this one was sold and sent to England as a wedding gift.

This is the first finished project of the second year of my Furniture design/making course I’m doing at the moment. Basically the challenge was to incorporate a curved element into our personal design, using either steam or laminate bending, I chose laminate bending.

One of my finished pieces from the Furniture design/making course I’m doing at present, was finished February this year. Hope to enter it into the New Zealand 2011 national wood skills festival in September this year.
