7 finger Tom

After completing my last project I usually gather all the scrap pieces up and make little boxes out of them. Yesterday morning around 4 a.m. I was in the shop doing just that, I put a new saw blades on and was just getting started when the wood pinched and kicked back hitting me right on the end of my left index finger with such force that it took the nail and a lot of meat with it! I thought at first I had stuck my finger in the blade but after recanting the event I’m almost certain it was a kick back. Anyway I won’t be cutting that finger nail again!
One would think “now that’s gotta hurt” but oddly enough it doesn’t! After a trip to the ER on the wife’s insistence I continued to work in my shop.

I’m glad you are ok. When you said what happened my body shivered. I know sometimes that you don’t even feel it happening. i did that 1 time while cutting some carpet. The hurt started after I aws the blood running down my arm.

Glad to hear it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I saw the title and thought Oh no.

Shouldn’t you be sleeping at 4 in the morning? I’m afraid of what I would cut off at that time. Glad to hear it wasn’t alot worse. Take care and heal up fast!

Got to hop back on the horse that bucked you!

I wacked the tip of my thumb off once. It was a small piece of wood that did the deed on a table saw. The blade pulled the wood down through the blade slot. BAM! in a nanosecond it was over. Got the scar to prove it….

Since then, I’ve seen jigs that would have made that a non event. Oh well, too soon we get old…

Thanks guy’s! I have to see a hand specialist today. after re-bandaging it last night I’m thinking he’s going to take the rest of it off!! Not a pretty sight, wife got a little pale around the gills.
The boss wouldn’t let me work Monday so I went home and got back on the horse. When I was young I worked on a farm with my grandfather and he started his days at 3 a.m. and I have also since, can’t explain it I just wake at that hour and go for it all day long.
