I was a "shop teacher" for 34 years. I have a degree in Industrial Arts from North Texas State University.

I taught Plastics Technology in some form or fashion every year. I also taught woodworking for 4 years in the 70's.

The plastics programs always included fabrication methods. We used all the common woodworking machines except the surface planner. We just had to modify or choose the correct blade or bit for every machine.

My early experience in taking and teaching woodworking really helped with the fabrication methods.

I have a small shop with common machines in my garage.

I became a school administrator and oversaw Construction programs among others. The Construction programs did not focus on woodworking but all the teachers did teach some woodworking.

I retired after 40 years in education. I now make presentations to school district teachers on "Shop Safety". Something I found too many teachers new to teaching do not do well.
