I was a "shop teacher" for 34 years. I have a degree in Industrial Arts from North Texas State University.
I taught Plastics Technology in some form or fashion every year. I also taught woodworking for 4 years in the 70's.
The plastics programs always included fabrication methods. We used all the common woodworking machines except the surface planner. We just had to modify or choose the correct blade or bit for every machine.
My early experience in taking and teaching woodworking really helped with the fabrication methods.
I have a small shop with common machines in my garage but rarely get to use them.
I am currently a school administrator. I oversee Construction programs among others. The Construction programs do not focus on woodworking but all my teachers do teach some woodworking.
