Bench Grinder Wheels- Which one? - 11 replies

I have a Bench Grinder that was going to be tossed, and with a little TLC got it working. It’s a little bench top model, 1/3 HP I think. It has 2 gray discs on it (Aluminum Oxide maybe?) that are 6” by 3/4”. I want to use it to sharpen and put a good hollow grind on my tools. I have seen pink wheels, white wheels, green whee...

Dog hole size/ spacing - 19 replies

I am building the top for my bench, and can not seem to decide on the holes for bench dogs. 3/4 inch or 1 inch holes? I like the festool add ons and would like to use my bench top as a clamping/ holding surface… Is there any reason I should use 3/4 holes vs 1” holes? 3/4 seems kind of small. I also plan on spacing there fairly close ...

Router as makeshift lathe headstock? - 14 replies

I have recently been interested in making a few chairs. These designs have spindles that need to be turned on a lathe. I don’t have a lathe and am not interested in using my half finished spoke shave to make a ton of spindles. Is there any way I can make a cradle for my router and turn it into a makeshift lathe headstock? I have seen some ...

Blogs not auto-saving? - 1 reply

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, but I just tried to create a blog series and had to shut down half way. The blog says that it auto-saves every 30 seconds, but now it is nowhere to be found. The title of the series is there but not the content I began typing. Do you have to completely finish a blog and post? Is there not way to save work ...

Multi-use drill press... - 3 replies

I have recently been looking for ways to get the most bang for my buck when it comes to tools. I have seen that a drill press can have attachments to make it a hollow-mortiser or drum sander. Would it be possible to use it as a shaper? It seems like a piece can be cut close to the line, then cut with the piece riding on a template. Is the dri...

Wooden Spokeshave- wood types? - 1 reply

I have just purchased a spokeshave kit to build my own beauty. I am just starting out and want to make most of my hand-tools. There are some amazing shop-made tools on this site. I would like to make all (or most) of my tools/handles from the same species of wood/metal. BRASS seems to be a common theme in the “wow that looks nice” po...

Browsing projects - 2 replies

Is there any way you could include a “Jump-To Page” feature in the projects section? After perusing the projects previously posted it would be nice to type in the page you left off at instead of clicking the pages 3 at a time. Thanks!
