Some (ok just one for tonight) unfinished projects....

These are a few pictures of some projects I have been working on for some time now. I will hopefully finish them before I start the next half dozen projects. It always happens that way…

The first picture is of a bench that I am throwing together, inspired by David Marks Egyptian bench combined with his coopered table.

The coopered section is the sides of the bench, the other piece is the top of the bench. I will have to go into more detail in another post. In the meantime, more pictures…

Sides of the bench with the dovetails laid out and ready to be cut…with a 15 degree slope…right. I had some jigs for this to lay it out and they failed. In the end it is just blue tape letting me know where to stop.

Cut with the great six dollar dovetail saw. Started with that saw to get a straight line then moved on to the bear saw, it is very thick oak after all…

Rough out with the band saw, not so cool. I dont have a lot of patience and there are a lot of angles to watch out for. The solution? Make one table saw cut down the middle of each waste area so a coping saw will fit to saw away the waste. Hand tools are just better sometimes.

Clean out the waste, all that is left is to rasp away to the final depth…

Long story short…lay out the pins on paper and transfer to the bench top for tails…talk about diving in the deep end…eh Paul?

Cut and chisel out the tails and test fit…and that is where it sits…waiting to be done. Wow, documenting these projects is almost as hard as the project itself…

More to come…much more.

Wow, I have never seen dovetails on a curved edge. That takes a lot of skill! My hat is off to you sir.

Go big or go home! Nice way to challenge yourself…

Let’s hear it for blue tape!

That is going to be a really impressive bench.
