Please excuse my intro, but “what comes next” for our little corner of paradice in the Sth seas.
3 months ago I wrote about the Pike river mine disaster & the 29 miners who lost there lives, now “over the hill” (as the local say) in Christchurch we have been hit buy a disasterous earthquake. It was only 6.2 on the scale, but it was only 5 Km deep directly under the city, it has flattened a 5km sqarea of the CBD. I lived in Christchurch for 20 years before shitfing to Auckland, my sister & hubby still live there as well as my niece & hubby & 6 kids (2 yld +).
Managed to talk to my niece tonight (36 hrs on) they are OK spent last night cuddled up in a tent on the front lawn, their house is a bit munted but they will be OK, no power, phones, water , sewage.
This followes a massive Quake in Ch Ch back in Sept last year which loosened things up somewhat & this has really caused mayhem. Butbthis one hasreally done the damage. Our iconic Catherderal in city square will have to be demolished (at this stage there are still 20 people burried in the church presumable all tourist) So far 75 dead + 300 (at least) missing
Help offered from every corner of the world is of great comfort & support to us Kiwis, the USA was one of the first in with “what do you need” isin’t it nice to have such great friends in a world full of ratbag terrorist and religous %$#&^%$^&().
Thanks for reading & please say a little prayer for thoese not so lucky tonight

I extend personally my prayers to all there in ChristChurch. Hope everyone can recover quickly from this disaster.

Larry, I know how you felt from the previous flooding and here comes another incident for your daughter and grandson. I am glad they are fine. Prayers will be mine to offer.

Pete, You have my prayers too.

God Bless,

-- Bert

God Bless you, thanks for the update. I will be praying for all of you. I will also make a donation to quake relief.
At times like these we should be pulling together even more. There will always be dirt bags, I am just thanking god that there are more good people in this world than bad.

Pete,
Likewise, I will be praying for all in Christchurch and the surrounding area. So sad to hear about the Cathedral. So glad that the US has offered assistance, I agree with Jeepturner when he said “there will always be dirt bags, I am just thanking God that there are more good people in this world than bad”.

Thanks for sharing!

I awoke yesterday morning to the news and started praying for you folks. Living on the “ring of fire” can have it’s ups and downs – side to sides also – fortunately for me it has always been on the “other side of the hill” so far. Living in the greater LA basin now and surrounded by it now. BE READY PEOPLE – the big one IS coming!

Pete, Like wise from my wife and I to you and your family and everyone in Christchurch, hoping everything and everybody is ok. My church here has a prayer warrior group that is I am sure already on this. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you and your countrymen. Take care.

Glad to hear your family is safe, Pete, We got a call shortly after the earthquake letting us know that our friends there were OK. That’s always good to hear but we all still feel for those less fortunate. And as well the loss of the historic center of such a beautiful city is a real tragedy in it’s own right.

We’re thinking of you and of beautiful NZ.

There has been so much shocking and powerful news, lately, it’s difficult to know which way to look, or whether to look at all.

But the images coming out of CC, right now, bring tears to my eyes.

My thoughts are with you, and your fellow Kiwis.

Ah Pete, it is sickening news. And your beautiful cathedral. I’ve talked to people locally who have visited there and they rave about its unique beauty. Much has been lost in that minute of disaster. So sorry to hear about it, and I’m glad the world is stepping up to help. Thinking of all of you there.
