the how I made my vessels or vases

Well lumber jocks here is a inside of how I make my vessels and vases, this one 6×8” in peruvian tulipwood

1)Piece of jacadaranda wood 6×6x9”

2)choosing the bottom of the blank (where the least figure would be)this one came out rigth, lol

3)round off the block

4)making the shape and the rebate for the jaws of my nova jaws(130mm)

5)some more shaping and boring out the hole 1-1/2” 7inches deep, god it sure looks pretty this wood

6)this a short video clip of hollowing in my rig(made by alida my student)a very good one indeed)

7)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz2f7uYAzyE

8)now we will wait some 2 weeks before finalizing the shape and get rid of any flaws, remember this wood is 75% wet, very heavy and dense, but it will come a real nice vessel in more or less a month, thanks hope you enjoy this post as wood lovers, sorry no fresh wood smells or shavings all over ,some day the tech will allow to smell and feel all that, thanks to all,any comments welcome

Estoraque turnings 2

This are the ones Im making this week some are end grain some side grain the pith is on the bottom in some so it will not show too much also they will get a treat of instant glue 2 o 3 times sanding in between they will prevent more cracks and the ones there will be almost invisible,I had to atach a block on some due to failure of my nova chuck(jaw screw stripped) so I use my old and very good precision chuck(sorbys) this are just starting forms the final shape it will be done after a week rest and some more drying ,In my next post will show some catahua wood and how to decide what to make out of it when you have a split on it,so you dont waste too much, the trick is to make other things than bowls or vessels ej=boxes ,tops for turnings allready done etc or at the last resort use as backing blocks like above pict 3&5
