Jetlag, I did end up going with the HF unit. I got some sections of 10' flexible hose from woodcraft when they were on wicked sale. I got some quick connect clamps so I can move from tool to tool. The HF unit is pretty loud, and the base it comes on is pretty flimsy. But, I don't wheel it around much, so I don't really notice. Once I get all the winter stuff out of the shop and I can get back to work out there, I'll probably move that sucker into a corner and Ronco it, "set it and forget it".
I did notice there are quite a few leaks in the motor housing. I'll have to go over those with some GE silicone II to seal them up. And where the handle connects to the baffle/bags the screw holes also shoot fine dust into the air, so I'll have to seal those too. But for $135, I couldn't find a better alternative. I eventually didn't go with the big cyclones because of space, and I can put the rest of that budget towards mitre/compressor/router this year.
But, when I hook that thing up to my planer or BS or TS, the dust just gets sucked away. It is nice not having piles of sawdust around your spinning blades or surfaces.
