« Part 5: HF Clamp purge?...I was clearly crazy Part 6 of Tools tools, I love toys, I mean tools series Part 7: Replace or Modify - the tale and end of my low end jobsite saw »

Every year (for the last 5 years), my wife and I look forward to Small Business Saturday to cash in on “free money” to spend on our hobbies. This year, the offer was for $10 back per transaction over $10, up to 3x per card number (not account, card number).

So armed with all of my many AMEX cards, I went to my local Woodcraft on Small Business Saturday and executed my clamp procurement. While most people went crazy picking them clean of Jet parallel clamps, I had my eye set on cleaning them out of Bessey Tradesman clamps with the 2K handle. In the end, I exhausted all of my allowance on Bessey clamps, for the following lovely prices:
  • 6” Bessey Tradesman TGJ2.506+2K: $13.50 – $10.00 = $3.50
  • 12” Bessey Tradesman TGJ2.512+2K: $14.50 – $10.00 = $4.50

I also picked up a second Preppin’ Weapon and Incra T-track. All in all, American Express covered 66% of my acquisitions that day (and I got enough clamps to replace my many HF F-style clamps). Thanks for paying for my kids Christmas present to me! My wife planned much better, and got American Express to cover about 97% of her transaction. Several of my co-workers also cashed in and stocked up on craft beer. If anyone has an AMEX and hasn’t taken advantage of this offer, I highly recommend you look into it next year.

PS: The look on the Woodcraft employee’s face was gold when I plopped all of the clamps on the counter declaring “I wanted to pay for each one on a separate transaction.” I think I went from familiar to infamous that day.

I like the score on the promotion but they well should limit it to one transaction per business that day so card holders would have to spread the love around to get the savings

The policy changes every year. In the past, it was 1 transaction of $25 or more per card number. They did the 3 transaction thing, likely so that they can get the per transaction fee.

I hope others will follow next year. If I don’t end up spending all of my AMEX credit next year on my woodworking hobby (a few hardwood dealers participate), I’ll probably spend it on a restaurant meal.
