well another year is almost at a close and i have been thinking about all the kind
and talented people i have been blessed to know in my journey here in LJ’s .
all the amazing work shown the progress evident with each day
the sharing attitude and help freely given
i have been thinking about us woodworkers and what makes us reach for and try new
and more difficult projects for ourselves
and then can so freely give them away to others
WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE
this gift we all share come to us in various ways
slowly at first somewhat mysteriously
some at the hands of father or grandfathers
some from a challenge to save money
some from study and observation
some from a simple curiosity and wonder
the difference i believe from most others
is that DOING builds character and confidence
as we make our mistakes we brush off and work harder and learn more
so different from mainstream where most hoard things
that they work so hard to acquire
it is hard to give things you have to buy away
but when you make them it becomes an opportunity to not only give freely
but to continue in an even better way
the knowledge , the spirit , the learned in hand experience
just keeps growing nothing is lost in the process
when you spend money you wind up with less
when you cut wood you somehow wind up with more
(check your scrap bin) lol
all ready to make even newer and more challenging things
if i don’t give something back the tap shuts off
and i get stagnant
there is a point for me
where i have to finish and clean out the shop
so i can be ready to receive new ideas
i am very grateful for all of you kindred spirits
i have learned so much
and seen so many grow thru this sharing here
just in this year alone the work displayed and grown upon
is monumental
everyone is advancing to newer and better heights
i am proud to be a part of this family
and cherish each and every one here
have a better new year
i know i will
even new mistake will mean i am still learning
so i welcome them too
HAPPY NEW YEAR !

David, these are wonderful words that you have spoken here and you have helped sooooo many people here that I know the words ring true. You are a blessing to all of us and I know that God will bless you for being so. Yet, as you say, you have also received as well so it’s a very good thing for all.
