Been looking hard for deals on a bandsaw. I’d prefer to buy new, but unfortunately that’s been freaking out Ye Olde Master of Budgetary Concerns. Then this shows up on Craigslist last night for $300 for all three items: http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/tls/449286417.html

I’ve written the seller for more details on year, model numbers, etc., but my novice eye thinks they look in decent condition. No idea how if Central Machinery has a rep for quality or not. Any thoughts for this newbie?

I’m not familliar with the brand but all three for 300 bucks? From the picture they look to be in good condition…I would definatley arrange a look see….it could be a ridiculous deal! And when it comes to Craigslist you have to strike while the iron is hot..I have missed out on several great deals due to hesitation..

Since Harbor Freight carries Central Machinery, I would check their site for prices on these items. At $100 a piece, it does not sound bad to start. But how well the machines work, hold up, etc is a good question. Maybe another LJ has some experience with these machines?

You can always request to do test cuts/drills etc before buying. At least that way you will know if they work, and roughly how well they work, before you drag them home.

I would guess they are gone. Have to move quick on Craigs list. It does not appear to be a bad deal if all 3 are in good working order.
I agree with Bill. These are from Harbor Freight.

Crossing fingers – still haven’t got a response to the email.
Harbor Freight lists a single speed model bandsaw and a 4 speed model for about $75 more. Couldn’t find the drill press or joiner. Even if they aren’t the best items, given that I only have a table saw at the moment the $300 could buy me time enough to get nicer replacements one by one.
Thanks for the input folks.

I’ve got one of the bandsaws and with new tires, guides, and blade it’s not a bad saw.
