New Tool is my favorite now! - 8 replies

I’m busy as all hell, I’ve got 9 projects going and can hardly keep them straight. 3 of them are gun stock sets that require more carving than anything. A couple weeks ago I stopped by a yard sale and picked up a Craftsman 1 1/2” chisel with a broken handle, gave 50 cents for it. Was sitting at my bench a few days ago and noti...

Do Not Read This Thread! - 42 replies

I’m pissed off and feel like ranting a little. Leave now if you don’t give a damn. I am a woodworker, I build things out of wood! I choose the wood I use based on what I want the item to look like. Holly is pure white and Ebony is black, there is a wood for every color and grain type in between these 2. Hundreds of different looking ...

Hatchet Of Your Dreams - 49 replies

Let’s start a new dream thread. LOL So the other day, I was out splitting a couple Apple logs and Oooopps! I broke my trusty old hatchet…..;-( So yesterday I stopped at a big yard sale and guess what I found….Yep a new to me hatchet! It’s an older Stanley H122. It was dirty and a little rusty, and I h...

JustPlaying Around - 9 replies

Didn’t feel like doing anything serious this evening, so I just did a few small turnings. Christmas ornaments out of Zebra and Purple heart. The screwdriver I think is Lace wood, but wouldn’t swear to it. A lady gave me a box of small wood pieces years ago and I don’t know what they all are. ...

Just a thought - 18 replies

How about attaching a sanding belt onto the drum of a planer! Would it be too fast and just burn the wood or do you think it would work? It would be easy enough to change over my Ridgid after planning some wood to run it back through with sand paper on the drum.

Need some math help - 21 replies

Dropped out of school and don’t remember what I did learn. I need to build one of these lamps and can’t figure out all the angles I need to make it. I know a pentagon is 36* cuts but keep confusing myself on the 3D part of this. Any help will be appreciated.

Whatcha Workin On? - 159 replies

What kind of projects are everyone doing now? I started a new commission today. A guy has a big road bike like a Harley but his is some import, Yamaha I think. It’s all decked out with saddle bags and everything else he could think of. Seams his wife graduated from college and got herself a decent job. She went and bought herself a bike so...

Mind Changer - 7 replies

This was going to be a tutorial, then turned into a review, but the site limits the number of pictures for a review. So I will call this a “suggestion”. I pulled out a Purple Heart turning block and prepared it for turning a bowl. I started turning, first with my roughing gouge then changed over to ...

Got back to turning! - 17 replies

I’ve had medical issues for a while now and haven’t been up to doing very much of anything. I got a little shop set up in a spare bedroom and have started doing some woodworking. Woke up this morning and decided today was the day to fire up the lathe. I didn’t think I had turned anything in a couple years, but LOML informed me ...

1981....36 years is long enough between builds! - 17 replies

In 1981 I was off work for a few months because of knee surgery I couldn’t do too much but I managed to do just a “small” amount of woodworking. I built myself a tool box for my “little” tool set. Well that box has seen better days, the handle broke off and the hinge is cracked, 36 years of service is enough and I...

I post most of my projects in the normal forums and never have any problems with the pictures. I tried to post some into my projects folder and it wants to turn my pictures sideways. I’ll just continue posting the way I normally do. :-(

Part #1, more than just wood. - 29 replies

Scrounging around the garage and found a couple billets I made a while back. Decided to make myself a new hunting knife, even though I don’t get to hunt any more. So, the blade is Damascus steel with a hollow ground profile. The scales (handle material) are Canary wood. The scale pins are brass tubes with gold flake. and the guard is Deer ...

Mossberg Home Defense - 88 replies

A friend gave me one of these. Mossberg 500 because he got a couple ARs and didn’t have room in his safe for it. :-) I don’t really have a need for it as is, so…......I turned it into a little home defense model. The first shot is a rubber ball, if a second is needed it’s for real! ...
