My name is Al and have recently set about making a living (trying) from my hobby in woodworking. Facebook is an integral part of marketing the products and I am currently striving to reach 100 LIKES on my page.
I have two questions:
1. Is there anyone else out there who uses FB for marketing? and if so how is it going?
2. Would anyone who has read this be willing to like my page here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Panga-Design/107616129306422
Thanks all in advance and please feel free to comment.
Al

I’m curious, why is Facebook an integral part of your marketing? Because people say it “should” be, or do you have a strategy?
What do you believe having 100 “likes” will do for your business?
Not trying to stir the pot, I’m genuinely interested in your response.

As a non-facebooker, I’m curious as well. Does it get you some exclusive exposure? I would think pointing to your own website from Facebook might be a good strategy. I wish you well!

Hi both.
I speak only from a UK point of view and also within my own demographic so bear with me. :)
My family, friends and local business ALL use FB on a daily basis. I have built up a network of people within that community who are interested in “what’s hot” coming from Panga Design. If I design and build a new product….....1 post to FB reaches 100’s of people with 1 post (directly). It also links back to my own website. From those 100’s who instantly view the post, there may be 10% who will “share” with their network with one click….thus extending my reach throughout the UK to ALL their friends too. It has worked well and I have even had several purchases from old school friends who I have not seen or talked to in over 20 years!
The 100 LIKES allows me to have a www.facebook.com/pangadesign address that I can use on my marketing bumf like business cards, flyers etc.
Many of the markets I trade with are using FB to organise and market the events also.
It’s free, it’s effective and all it requires is some time and attention.
That MUST be a good thing surely?
:)

I’ll tell my fiance’ to like you. That sounded weird, but you know what I mean:) Your explanation makes perfect sense to me. You’re quite easy to recommend (given you posted projects) and I’ll do what I can!

i try to be cautious with information, i use the advantages of internet and try to avoid the negative sides.
95% of my business comes exclusively from the internet, still i do not have a website, i am not on facebook or the likes, and if you google my real name you will find absolutely nothing!
as long as i get enough work i will keep it that way. the first thing i do when i get an order is check the name on google and i usually find a facebook page with a picture and some personal info.
your clients, police, tax inspections, thieves, etc… do the same for you!
Al, be super cautious with facebook. don’t put anything on there that could somehow cause you trouble, be as neutral and kind as possible, no personal info. if you get 99 satisfied customer replies and 1 negative then the effect of that one could take your business down! he who has not had a unsatisfied customer is a liar!!

Thanks Jack_T, BrandonW and Bertha! Great feedback!
Greedo I find it difficult to understand your view, but respect your opinion nonetheless. :)

To Greedo, I don’t have a facebook account for the reasons you outline, but my fiance’ does (much to my chagrin). In my professional life, it can only do harm. I’m just fine with the anonymity of sites like this one.
