I consider myself handy and interested in making things. I have a way to go before I consider myself a 'woodworker' (and a few tools to get along the way, half the fun!).
Kids give me lots of reasons to make things, needed or broken. I love the look on their faces when daddy makes them a new table, toy, or toybox.
