Occasionally my eight year granddaughter and I take a walk around the block, one day she saw some little rocks painted like ladybugs but she said they were very small. So I found her a rock that had the correct shape and was fairly good size and I showed it to her. She said, “now that’s going to be a big ladybug”. So I washed it and gave it a coat of primer.

When she was ready to paint she put on an apron and painted the entire top of the rock red. When she was done with the red she said “it just looks like a red rock and not like a ladybug”. I reassured her it will be OK.

Next day, after the red paint had dried, I taped off the wings and she painted all the black on the rock. While the black paint was drying I cut stencils for the black/white dots and eyes, and the next day she painted those spots on the rock.

She asked me what are we going to do about the legs and antenna? I said “do you think the ladybug needs them”? She said “of course she does”! So I added the legs and antenna made out of #12 insulated black wire for the legs and #18 black wire for the antenna with hot melt glue.

After the paint cured and I gave it two coats of lacquer and now it sits on the top of the brick block border in the back edge of our yard.

Really unforgettable! Great job.

Looks wonderful, Hans. I have a couple of grandchildren coming for a few days later this week. We are currently in La Conner. May have to figure something out for older one.
