my weekend workshop #2: Miter Saw dust shroud

Today was more of an experiment than anything but I’m satisfied with how it turned out. I was tired of sawdust going everywhere in my garage when I used my miter saw, so decided to try build a shroud out of some scraps and some vinyl sheeting so the dust collector could be more effective. I have a shop vac under the miter saw that collects the dust from the saws port which doesn’t collect much at all. Eventually I’ll build a more permanent cabinet with a downdraft table underneath the saw itself and use a bigger hood, but this works for now. I would say its about a 50% reduction in dust going around the shop which is worth the work. Enjoy the pictures.

my weekend workshop #1: tuning the table saw. Ridgid 4511

Today I finally got around to making a zero clearance insert for my Ridgid R4511 Table saw. I’ve had the saw since November, but have not had much time to use it yet. I build an auxilary fence for it a couple weeks ago, which has helped a bit. I ordered some phenolic sheets on Ebay and finally they arrived today so I could make the insert. I had purchased the insert kit from Rockler previously, but its to short for my saws throat plate opening.
Attached is some pictures of the insert from start to finish. I think it came out good and will have a few more to put on ebay for other Ridgid or Steel city owners who don’t want to mess with making their own.
