Hey Guys! I’m new the woodworking field but I’m always trying to learn new things and doing my best. I just thought I would show you guys some of the things I’ve been given access in these recent months. One of my neighbors is selling his property and having all of his land cleared out and cut down.

With that being said I noticed a year or so before this that he’s got plenty of burled trees littering his property to which he gladly gave me permission to cut down. Most of the tree’s that were burled on the property were wild cherries like the ones shown, but also managed to get some red oak and and some sort of willow burl as well.

I’m still not sure what to do with it all, I’ve sealed the ends of all of them since these photos with parafin wax seeing as how it was the cheapest and easiest item I had available. I hope to in the future buy some anchorseal or some other good wood sealant. If anyone’s got any suggestions on what to do or tips for me I would greatly appreciate it. Just wanted someone else to appreciate it like I do :D

(My Biggest burl so far, Wild cherry)

(This is my friend holding the branch I was too short to cut down I think it’s a willow of some sort but not sure.)

(Some more burls from one of the wild cherry trees)

(Side view of a Burled root we found down by the river)

(These last two are side shots from one of my burls that i’ve cut into blocks and soaked in pentacryl)

Nice score! That big one would make a nice bowl. The other ones you could slab up into lumber or make turning blanks.

Thanks! I’m wanting to experiment with different curing methods. I’m going to try to boil a few blocks and see how that turns out.

If you should happen to find some sizeable chunks of birch burl, hit me up. I’m always looking for those!

Definatly :0 I’ve mostly been finding wild cherry and I actually got some scarlet oak burls just yesterday. I’ll keep you posted.
