Saw vise of unknown origin

I recently purchased this saw vise at an antiques mall:

At $18 I feel that I got a good deal. The thing is I don’t know who made it. I looked on line, not extensively I might add, but found nothing. Perhaps a more thorough search is in order. In the mean time, would any of you know who might have manufactured this vise and when? Thanks for your input.

Can’t help you on the info your looking for but a quick look at the pic looks as if this could be used as a portable outboard turning rig. Good deal. The price sure is right.

I’ve got one pretty similar, but it doesn’t have the plated front crank. Try looking all over it for some marks, they may be pretty faint and may not be visible until some of the rust comes off. I haven’t found any marks on mine. These were pretty common back in the day so if it doesn’t have a manufacturers mark it may be hard to tell who made it unless someone manages to recognize the design. If you can find a patent date on it, google that. It can be a good way to identify old tools.

I’m betting that the chrome crank is NOT original to the piece. Looks too much like an old car window crank handle…. perhaps from a 1930s or ‘40s Dodge product?
