Not long ago I had to come up with a way shape an inside radius. I would have used a spoke shave but I don’t have one. As usual I turned to Lumberjocks for inspiration. I remembered that our good buddies Mafe , Tim , and TrBlu made something called a Pencil Shave. After looking at their designs as well as a few others I made one of my own.
Here’s what I used; two (2) cabinet door knobs, eight (8) brass spacers, two (2) pieces of copper tubing, one (1) pencil sharpener blade, and one (1) piece of steel rod with threads on both ends.
The first thing to do is attach one of the knobs to one of the threaded ends of the rod.
Next, put three (3) of the brass spacers onto one of the copper tubes.
Now slide a spacer along with the copper tube and spacer assembly onto the steel rod.
Next comes the pencil sharpener blade
After making another spacer assembly, slide the last spacer and the spacer assembly onto the rod. The other knob is the final part to put on.
It’s just that easy.
Here’s a demo of how to use it
I’m glad I made this tool it has really come in handy. I hope you’ll make one of your own and show it off here on Lumberjocks.
