Quite a while back I acquired an old wooden jointer plane. When I got it home I took it apart and cleaned it up a bit. The blade needed some serious work and the sole needed to be flattened. I was able to complete these task and I am now ready to reassemble the plane. the problem I am having is that the plane iron and the chip breaker are not going back into the plane body as easily as I think it should. It seems to be a very tight fit. I’m afraid that if I try to force them in that I will damage the plane is some irreparable way. Is it normal for the iron and chip breaker to fit this tight?
Here is the plane in question;
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
