As you know…and if you didn’t – now you know…I don’t have a “normal” workbench with Vices but, sometimes I need them.

So, I made a very simple, easy and cheap vices.

I leave it to your imagination what you can do with them.

We have some old table top and my wife asked to make some small legs so it can be used as coffee table or just a table to put things during the barbecue.

That, gave me the chance to “play” a little bit with the new “Rolling mortise jig”...it works perfect…and fast.

I could screw the hinges to the top but, because the top was cupped, I made some extensions or elevations that I glue and screw to the top to straighten it (the table must be folded and stored for the Polish winter).

On one of the pictures (in the garden) you will see the drill connected to a flashlight. This flashlight has a sealed lead/acid 6V accumulator so, it is used as “double function”, light/drill.

The legs were painted with two layers of impregnate and the top, with Wood/Metal lacquer

So here it is without any text on the pictures…for a change…

Good day

After you have seen the WIP, here is the completed cabinet.

I installed the mirror and the back in the garage and than carried the heavy thing to it’s last location (I hope) and installed the side glasses and the doors.

The mirror and the glasses were ordered from local glass shop and can you imagine? (yes, you can), I made mistake in the mirror length dimension, ME, that never make mistakes (again my nose it getting longer for some reason) and I’m using Metric measuring system!!!
Well, it cost me another $4 to change it to the correct length, another lesson…

Good day

That’s the second part of the glass cabinet WIP up to the point that I finished painting.

I’m using a Lacquer that is used here for wooden floors, very durable and more important, dries in 2 hours so I can apply it a few times in one day.
As you can see, I’m using the home made foam brushes.

If you remember the “TV stand”, my wife designed and ordered a glass cabinet to come on top of one of the three units.

The width (39½”) and the depth (22”) fits to the lower cabinet but the height is 55” and I used 1-3/16” thick Oak.

You could see the process of cutting the boards on my other posts on the table saw so it will not be here.

because the subject contains 48 pictures, I divided it into two parts otherwise, it will be too “heavy” to open the post.

Good day

Another unit that my wife designed to fit the TV stand.

Again, 3 separate units and everything is like the TV stand.

If the glass door and the cabinet door below looks like they open to the “wrong” direction, it is because the furniture in our house are “moving” all the time. The unit was designed for deferent location.

On the pic below, it came to rest in the new place (for how long…) and now the doors are opening to the correct side.

Good day

I made it in Poland last summer.

Designed by my wife (of course).

Wood – white Oak 1” thick.

Three separate units so we can change the arrangement but mainly, to make it easy on my old back to carry them around.

Each unit is 39½” (1 Meter) long, 22” wide (deep) and 22” high.

Stain and 5 layers of varnish (with the foam brushes).

The carcasses are doweled (on my crazy router table) and I used Polyurethane glue.

All the doors and drawers are “inset” and the edges are rounded to musk the creator’s mistakes.

The hardware is of course “Euro” (doors hinges and drawers rails).

I added 3 pic of closer view of each units so you can see the “Fashlah’s” (Arabic for faults mistakes, goofs etc….) and if you don’t see any, it doesn’t mean that there are no mistakes…it means that I masked them good…

Yep, it was 12 years ago, Japan, the biggest department store – “Seibu” (the richest man in the world before Bill took the lead with “Windows”), we saw some clear plastic tissue box.

My wife wanted to buy it but I said “Plastic???”
“Can you make it of wood?”...”of course”, I replied.

At that time, my “woodworking tools” included, hand drill, jigsaw, file and some screwdrivers.

So, we went to the local carpenter and ordered 1/4” plywood pieces cut exactly to my “cutting list” and he even gave me some sandpaper to sand the box and told me how to use it (with pad).

We went home and I, very carefully glued the pieces with…..Super glue.
The hole was cut with jigsaw and filed.

I finished it with “Nisu” – Varnish in Japanese (we made a few more but stained them).

And that’s it, I got the bug (and how much)

Since than, I made many Boxes, big, small, with doors, with drawers and glass, many of them we gave to friends when we left Japan but this “box”, I’ll keep forever…

I made this coffee table some 10 years ago in Japan.

It’s a 24” x 24”, Lauan, stained (5 years later) and mat varnish.
On the 3 pics above, you can see the original….

But, I got “Modification order” from my wife and the building story is on the following pictures.

Good day

On the post “Doweling on router table”, I’ve shown an example of drilling dowel holes for a frame with some melamine scraps, now it’s the time to show the “real thing”.

My wife ordered two small stools and how am I to argue with her (actually I run to make them).

The wood is white Oak 1¼” thick and the dimensions are 12”x12” and 14” high (the tops are 14”x14”).
“We” decided to leave the stools unfinished.

The red marks (I, II, III & V) has nothing to do with the drilling order, they are only for the wood patterns.

So, here it is in colors
