no previous part Part 1 of Screen Doors series Part 2: Half way there... Looks like a door »

Hi all,

I’ve been building up my shop recently. My wife has been very supportive. So when she asked for some screen doors for inside our house I couldn’t very well say no! You might be wondering why screen doors inside the house… well, we do foster care for our local cat shelter – mainly pregnant mothers and their kittens. We have two rooms where we keep them – neither are heated/cooled. She wants them climate controlled. So… screen doors.

She found one at HD that she really liked and wouldn’t look terrible, but they aren’t paintable and won’t match the rest of the trim. Therefore, I’ll be building them.

I’ve got them mostly designed and she approves of the shape. I could use some feedback on the joint design. I’m mortising the whole thing together. I figure it will be a good skill building project for me before launching into some Arts and Crafts designs I want to tackle next.

If you’d like to see the design details you can look online here: and here: There is a model and design drawings.

-- I do this for fun.
