When designing the shop or should I say remolding a very small garage I decided to make the doors open out. It saves on space yes! but I didn’t really think about screen doors in the spring/fall. Working thru my first summer the bugs weren’t to bad and once it got really hot I used AC. Moving into fall however I really wanted to open the doors but the mosquitoes in my area can really be bad a night. I thought about screen doors or making frames that would sit in the door jam but storage when not in use would be another issue.
The solution ended up coming from a friend that told me about something he’d seen on TV called magic screens. I did a little googling and this is the finished product.
I used a high quality no-see-em fabric made for tents. They are held up by a spring rod available at the box stores for under 5.00. The bottoms used a few pieces of scrap wood in the seams to keep tension. Then down the center I sewed 4 pieces of magnetic tap.
So far everything has worked great. I don’t get a lot of traffic in my shop but it’s easy enough to get in and out without trouble.
