Cutting Out The Pieces.
Good afternoon Lumberjocks. It has been awhile since my last blog. I have decide to share how I make my loft beds. I will share, and show you the first step in the process of making them. This is the first time I have decided to use hardwood to. I am making this loft bed out of soft maple. After using hardwood I don’t even what to use pine again. Hardwood is much easier to work with. But here is a few pictures of the cut out pieces. Most of the pieces in the middle are the legs and rails of the bed. The smaller shorter pieces towards the top of the pics are the rail pieces for the ends. The 2×4’s in the pics are for the ends thats what the shorter pieces go in between which you find out in my next blog. The 2×2’s and the longer 1×4’s are the rails and the boards that the bunkie boards lay on for the mattress.

Nice upgrade to the maple. Pine does have it’s place sometimes, but working with hardwood is alot more pleasurable. Not so much tearout, fasteners hold better, less dent prone, and on & on…. And it just plain looks alot better.
Thanks for letting us follow your procedure for your bunk beds.
