This is my first go at anything more involved than cabinets for the garage. Overall, it was quite a learning experience, and while the end result wasn’t perfect, it is quite satisfactory.

A couple of years ago, we got a new puppy. She’s a great addition to the household, but…she does like chewing things. My SO has a collection of designer shoes that, if dog-damaged, would likely spell an early demise for the canine, so I build a cabinet for her shoes.

Rough dimensions are 4’ wide by 2’ tall by 16” deep. The main wood is a high-grade 3/4” birch plywood. The door trim is maple with a bit of birdseye in it. One fixed shelf in the middle. Vertical stays in the middle of the front of the cabinet give it strength in case some moron tries to use it as a bench. The back is MDF. Hinges came from Horton; and magnetic push latches keep the doors closed.

Overall, it was quite a learning experience, and while it’s a pretty amateurish effort compared to the rest of you guys, I’m kind of proud of how it turned out. I’m already looking forward to the next project.

And, of course, a great big thank you to everyone for all the advice I got in the various stages of making this happen. This forum is fantastic!
