Blog entries and forum topics are now taggable too. Tags are becoming more and more important as the content on the LumberJocks is growing exponentially. Essentially they are like descriptive keywords attached to each project, blog entry or forum topic. They help to make it easier for you to find the content you’re interested in.

I’ve also redesigned the Tags page. Now it have three subpages – projects, blogs and forums. On each of them you can see the respective most popular tags displayed in a nice “tag cloud”. It means the tags that are used most are displayed bigger. In addition to this popular tags cloud you can find simple “Jump to tag” textbox. Just type in the keyword you’re looking for and click on “GO”. Only the projects (or blog entries or forum topics) containing that tag will be presented to you on a next page.

And remember that you can find all of the project tags listed on the project page (on the left side) – and they are clickable. Same with blogs and forums.

As you can see proper tagging is essential process to keep our growing directory of content easily browsable by context. So try to devote some time to tags when adding your next project, blog entry or forum topic. I’ve tried to make it even easier for you by providing few questions that you should consider answering when entering tags. This mini-guide is displayed just below the Tags/Keywords textbox on the add/edit pages. This is the sample from the edit project page:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

So if you get some free time feel free to go through your past postings and enter some good tags to them.

Thanks!

this will be helpful .. and sometimes, after discussions take place and the discussion changes, the tags need to be added to.
There are some conversations that I am trying to track down and it would be much easier if the TAGS were adapted to reflect the discussions.

Well done, AGAIN, Martin

... and I forgot to add that all of the tags are automatically included to the respective page META Keywords. So they have impact on the position of your writings in the Search Engines like Google.

Tags, Pulse, Shuffle, Flicker, Photobucket, Meta Keywords… I feel sick. I think I’ll just go run my head along the spindle sander for a few minutes to feel better.

Seriously, thanks Martin for all of your hard work. The site is running wonderfully.

LOL.. I’d remove Pulse and Shuffle from the list, Chip.. since those are real-word words used to name cool concepts here ;) and the remaining ones.. at least you will learn something useful for this fast moving internet-powered age ha

Hey, make sure you edit any previous (series) entries in order, otherwise the most recently tagged will be marked last! I just had to tag my box series twice to get them back to sequential! (since I worked backwards the first time)

OK.. it’s fixed now, Scott. You can safely edit any entries in the series without affecting the order in that series. uff.. Dusty owes you one beer.. imagine if he decided to add some tags to his series before fixing this problem ;)

Yeah, the story would have been out of order and You’d owe him a beer.
(and we’d be so confused rereading through that we’d need one too! ;)
