I am glad that you like it Martin. I hoped to make a positive impact on the new LJ members in a way that no other site does.
This little video was a perfect way to start honing my movie production skills.

This is slick. So, Martin, have you decided how you’re going to get it to play for each new LumberJock? That would be really cool.
Todd, you’re a natural … keep ‘em coming.

Man, this is great! Todd is a natural. We need to pitch in and buy him a flannel shirt.

You look very comfortable in front of the camera , great job and a real good idea.
Video is the way to go. I have been thinking about getting a web cam, maybe it is time.
The more video we have here the more people will find this a place for today and for the future.
Martin – you need to start thinking (I am sure you are) about how to seamlessly incorporate video into the site. Maybe start another thread on suggestions and ideas. An easy one is to add a tab on the My LumberJocks home page for My Video, But that is not very innovative :)
Maybe add a forum topic – Video discussions, hardware, software and how to’s

Great Idea Todd. Very well done, you come across as friendly and approachable, key to a welcome video. I like the safety reminder at the end as well.
Martin, this may need a slot on the main page for a while.
Perhaps another challenge, Make the official welcome video for LumberJocks. Grand Prize, Your video on the front page of LumberJocks for 6 months and a one year subscription to the mag of your choice.
Just some thoughts,
Greg

Todd your really a natural talent on the video, you have a good voice who is also
clear for (us) foreigners.
It is also nice that you said “people all over the world”, it is for (us) foreigners a little scary
to speak in English on such a great community.
You did it really good.
I hope also that LJ stays a open and FREE community and that we not, in the future, need to pay for the website.
Thanks Schummie.

Thanks for all the support guys.
I carry a high opinion of the members at LJ and the overall character of the site. I appreciate Martin’s efforts and I hoped that adding something positive like this would continue to nurture the spirit that LJ has.
I will get more videos out but I have more learning curve to climb. I always love learning something new.
Schummie – Your comments are very appreciated because it means that my intentions of making everyone feel welcome is working.

great video…i missed it…thanks for the re-post…now if we could just get todd to open up that Woodworking/Flyfishing school we would have it made!!! You know…wake up at the crack of dawn and do a little fishing (montana!!!) and come back for the coffee and shop time…and then back to the river at dusk…sounds like a good week for me…
I’d pay some money for that week!!! 5 students at a time…hmm…???

It’s an OK video. You need to do something about your feed bandwidth, though. I could not see more than 10 seconds without it pausing to load more.
Video is fine for some things. When you need to “show and tell” video rules. But for most of the project posts here, I prefer still pictures. Video adds nothing to viewing the finished project but may add to the “here’s how it was done” aspect.
And, please, please, PLEASE no more videos of the dancing fool woodworker (whatever the hell his name was)! :)
