Could our Pulse get even better? You bet! Let me introduce our new powerful Pulse filter:
This filter widget allows you to be selective about the things you want to see on the Pulse page. You can quickly restrict the type of activities you want to see at any given time. Just switch the first drop-down to Projects and the Pulse will display only the activities from the Projects section – same with the Blogs, Forums, Workshops and Jocks.
Are you interested only in the posts started by your buddies? Easy – just switch the started by drop-down to my buddies and you’re done. You can even use it to display only your own posts.
The third drop-down labeled active is powerful too. Use it to restrict the posts displayed in the Pulse by time. Current options are: anytime, in last 24 hours, in last 7 days.
As you assume, the last ’only new’ checkbox will tell the Pulse to display only those items that have some new comments/replies plus those that you’ve never checked. All of the greyed (read) posts will be elegantly omitted from the listing. Use this option if you want to avoid the clutter.
And what’s best about this new feature? Your Pulse filter is automatically saved to your profile after each change. Your personalized version will stay with you even on other computer – of course, you must be signed in. No need to set the options to your preferred values each day.
As a bonus to this vital upgrade I’ve also added handy Refresh button to the Pulse listing. Hit it anytime you want your personalized listing being refreshed.
Enjoy ;)

I have been gone for a long while due to a PC crash, moving, selling a house and trying to set up my shop. Wow, there have been some changes made. I like them! Nice to be back and I hope I will become more active in this group!

Tom,
Well, I haven’t had the computer crash, but my wife and I are in the middle of closing on a new house. I hope the closing and ensuing move of home and shop doesn’t keep me away from LJ for that long!
Welcome back!

Glad you like this addition.. thanks!
One question about the Pulse widget located in the footer of the pages. Do you want it to reflect your personal filter settings as well? Or should it just continue showing the pulse in the default way?

No response to my question in the last comment so I’ve answered it myself ;) The short Pulse in the footer now reflects your filter settings on the Pulse page.
And now I have my favorite way to browse the site!
When you want to quickly go through all the new recent posts in a controlled way follow this plan. Set the active setting to “In last 24 hours” and check the “only new” checkbox. Now go to first item in the list and read it. Once you finish reading just scroll down to the bottom of the page (you should be very close). Now you will see the pulse magic in action – the item you’ve just read will not be displayed in the footer’s Pulse (remember you set your filter to show “only new”). Instead the item that was originally 2nd will be displayed as the 1st one so you just need to click on it to continue reading new stuff for you. Continue this way till your Pulse stack is empty and your reading is done for that given time. How Cooool ;)

how VERY VERY cool
and if you are still near the top just click on “feel the pulse” again and voila—everything updated and ready for viewing.
We get our addiction filled AND we do it in less time so more time in the shop.
Can life get any better?? !!!

Oh. I forgot to mention one more neat addition – consider it as my little bonus to all addicts ;)
It’s nice to have Jocks displayed in the pulse but I’ve realized yesterday that it’s hard to keep track of new content when we have 50 new jocks per day – which is GREAT by the way. So I’ve added one more option to the first drop-down → ‘All except jocks’. Just select it and all jock items will be filtered out from your pulse view. Only fresh new content will be listed. And whenever you’re in mood to welcome new members just switch back to ‘All’ or just ‘Jocks’.
Enjoy!

I noticed that addition and appreciate it… nice to break down the looking into manageable chunks. Was hard browsing yesterday with the floodgates open! Obi may well have to recalculate the 1000 member preditcion point!...
just so long as we always have more projects than jocks, you’ll know we aren’t all complete and total addicts to this site! ;)
