January was the first month of our revamped advertising offer so I’d like to inform you about it as well as about our first success stories.

As you may know I posted ad manager request few weeks ago. The Squires Team jumped in and established LumberJocks “Advertising Department”. After numerous discussions we decided to change our advertising offer. The goal was to make it simple and get rid of complicated “per page impressions” bookings. The old offer also allowed companies to book the banners exclusively for one month and this resulted in high monthly prices. Instead we are now offering 20 rotating banners in each of 3 ad units on the right sidebar and thanks to this change the prices are much lower and affordable. Plus we added hard to resist “buy 2 months and get 1 free” special offer into the mix and we ended with the following simple advertising packages:

Ad Unit 1 month Buy 2 – Get 1 FREE
Skyscraper $150 $300 ($100/mo.)
Vertical Banner 1 $125 $250 ($83/mo.)
Vertical Banner 2 $100 $200 ($67/mo.)

Then we worked hard during the Christmas time to redesign our main Advertise with us page before the beginning of 2008. We even successfully collected basic demographics data thanks to your participation in the survey.

Personally, I’m really happy with this new LJ advertising offer since it has made advertising on our site affordable to all interested companies and businesses, not just the big names. And hopefully, we will establish great network of business relationships that will make whole site better in the end.

As I mentioned at the beginning we already have first advertisers and I’d like to welcome them as well as thank them for deciding to advertise on the

I have heard may people complain about advertising.. (not here on this site) I would guss that it is usually because the ads are not what they are interested in. I like what you have done. I want to see ads for things I am (or might) be interested in as you have done here. And I want to see interesting ads. I have Tivo but will still stop on some of the spots if they look fun or if I am interested in what is being promoted. Keep up the great work.

Microsoft + LumberJocks = MicroJocks haha.. sounds better than Microhoo. I hope Microsoft will see the potential too ;)

Ads on the LumberJocks will always be related. We even have no sound, no popup, no animations policy. The goal is not to annoy the visitors – instead we want to offer even more value and opportunities through the advertising.

Thanks for all encouragement.
