January was the first month of our revamped advertising offer so I’d like to inform you about it as well as about our first success stories.

As you may know I posted ad manager request few weeks ago. The Squires Team jumped in and established LumberJocks “Advertising Department”. After numerous discussions we decided to change our advertising offer. The goal was to make it simple and get rid of complicated “per page impressions” bookings. The old offer also allowed companies to book the banners exclusively for one month and this resulted in high monthly prices. Instead we are now offering 20 rotating banners in each of 3 ad units on the right sidebar and thanks to this change the prices are much lower and affordable. Plus we added hard to resist “buy 2 months and get 1 free” special offer into the mix and we ended with the following simple advertising packages:

Ad Unit 1 month Buy 2 – Get 1 FREE
Skyscraper $150 $300 ($100/mo.)
Vertical Banner 1 $125 $250 ($83/mo.)
Vertical Banner 2 $100 $200 ($67/mo.)

Then we worked hard during the Christmas time to redesign our main Advertise with us page before the beginning of 2008. We even successfully collected basic demographics data thanks to your participation in the survey.

Personally, I’m really happy with this new LJ advertising offer since it has made advertising on our site affordable to all interested companies and businesses, not just the big names. And hopefully, we will establish great network of business relationships that will make whole site better in the end.

As I mentioned at the beginning we already have first advertisers and I’d like to welcome them as well as thank them for deciding to advertise on the LumberJocks.com:

  • Tool King”ToolKing.com is committed to delivering the best selection of products and services at the lowest possible prices to our valued customers. Internationally renowned as a tool resource, ToolKing.com is a favorite among Internet shoppers, ranking in the ‘Top 50’ several years in a row. Nestled in the foothills of Colorado just west of Denver, Colorado, the brick and mortar Tool King store is staffed with knowledgeable employees who are woodworkers, craftsmen and contractors themselves. The staff offers their expertise to the consumer to help them make an educated decision on their tool purchase.”
  • Eagle America”Eagle America was founded in 1989 with the goal of providing woodworkers with the highest quality American Made Router Bits at affordable prices. Today we are still family owned and operated, but our product selection has grown substantially. We now offer over 3,500 items ranging from the largest selection of high quality American Made router bits in the industry, to over 1,500 other woodworking tools and accessories.”
  • PriceCutter.com”PriceCutter was founded in 1996 with the goal of searching out and providing “The Woodworker’s Best Value”. Value is the key term, and it means many different things to many different people. Today we are known as PriceCutter.com and offer products through our larger, better looking catalog and this new website. As of last count we offer over 3,000 items between our catalog and web site. We are known primarily for our great lines of Router Bits, but woodworking accessories are over half of what we offer today. You have plenty of great values to choose from and we are always adding more.”
  • Ezee-Feed Mfg.”Ezee-Feed Table Saw Accessories, New infeed / outfeed systems. Designed to replace roller stands, for ripping sheet goods and rough lumber. Folds for easy storage.”

I’m sure more companies will follow soon. If you know about any interesting prospects don’t hesitate to send them to the Advertise with us page.

Hope you enjoyed this behind the scenes insight ;)

With the growth of this fantastic site, I just wonder how long it will be before before microsoft wants to buy LumberJocks instead of Yahoo. Just kidding. keep up the excellent work.

I have heard may people complain about advertising.. (not here on this site) I would guss that it is usually because the ads are not what they are interested in. I like what you have done. I want to see ads for things I am (or might) be interested in as you have done here. And I want to see interesting ads. I have Tivo but will still stop on some of the spots if they look fun or if I am interested in what is being promoted. Keep up the great work.

Microsoft + LumberJocks = MicroJocks haha.. sounds better than Microhoo. I hope Microsoft will see the potential too ;)

Ads on the LumberJocks will always be related. We even have no sound, no popup, no animations policy. The goal is not to annoy the visitors – instead we want to offer even more value and opportunities through the advertising.

Thanks for all encouragement.
