It’s time to improve our comments/replies browsing system again. Our unique sliding comments work well for quick reading of the new comments but they are far from ideal for the first time readers of the very long threads like Handplanes of your dreams and many others.
So I decided to add a separate comments/replies page for every post. You will see the link to this page on the right side of the comments pagination section:
As you can see, I also reduced the number of sliding comments from 30 to 15 to make the browsing faster.
When you click on the link you will be taken to the comments/replies archive page for a given thread that lists complete discussion by 50 comments/replies per page:
Enjoy!

That will help a Lot, Martin, thanks. I’ve hated having to scroll back through all those replies to see what’s going on.
By the way, Martin, is there any way we could get the Comments list of Buddies to scroll down? I feel I’m missing many many msgs. as it is restricted to only a short list of current comments by Buddies. I go to the Pulse page for that, but it’s so huge now, it’s hard to find buddies listed on it. Or is there another way I’m missing?

Hi Martin,
I’m a new member here, wanted to say thanks for providing this service to use. I appreciated the amount of work this takes (I’m in IT) and the cost of bandwidth etc. Great work and a great site.

Nice! And you can then past links ‘by page’ to jump to sections within the long threads! Thanks, Martin!

Hello Martin,
I am new to Lumberjocks but I am enjoying it very much. I thought I might bring up a suggestion to you about the comments if I may. Perhaps you could add a feature that allows you to reply to a specific comment. I like to say thank you to anyone who compliments me and it would be nice to have a one click reply button on that comment. If you are familiar with Flickr.com at they have something very similar where you can attach the buddies icon so they know you are talking and replying to them. It links back to their comment. Does this make sense?
Thank you very much for your time and patience. And thank you very much for this great thing you have provided called Lumberjocks. Everyone here is wonderful.
Very Respectfully and Gratefully,
Nate Meadows

How badly will it kill someone’s browser if they open something like handplane or Stumpy’s post and hit see all replies?
Might it not be better to just have a “see last 30 replies” to get people to the end of the really long posts vs. all; not very many will actually want to see all once the posts go past several hundred replies but getting to the end would still be nice.
