During last 2 weeks I’ve been testing services by relatively new hosting provider – Slicehost. They have narrow and very focused offer which is quite unique among hosting providers. Testing proved me that it’s worth to move our sites to them. I was happy with the support as well as other aspects on our old provider but Slicehost offers streamlined interface and easier expansion in the future.
The move day was yesterday. I’d like to apologize for no notice before the move but this was so hectic week (keep reading). I wanted to post something on Friday but I finished all the preparation steps in the midnight and wanted to wake up early in the morning to make the switch asap. It was also hard to tell how long everybody of you will be affected because it depended on the propagation of the name servers change across the Internet. This is beyond my control since it often depends on your own ISPs even if I did all necessary steps to make them pick up new site’s servers asap.
Okay enough technical details ;) If you can browse the site without any problems now we’re good.
I mentioned hectic week… yes not only hosting changes… we’re getting ready to start our Winter Awards and were busy to get some great companies on board. I’m sure you’re going to be pleasantly surprised since we’re also going to have BIG HUGE COOL grand prize this time ;) (that’s also the reason I wanted to change hosting the weekend before the Awards.. we’re expecting lots of interest).
So stay tuuuuned!
And once again sorry for any inconvenience this weekend.

Everything seems to be working just fine here, as a matter of fact, I hadn’t noticed any changes at all!

Hey Martin, I am using the Lumberjocks toolbar and I usually access the site through shortcuts/home. I keep getting “system down for maintenance”. I thought it was still offline but when I went through What’s New I got in. thought you might like to know.

2000 members; 100,000 comments… yes, the site is growing in leaps and bounds!
Why? because of the great site and the great members.
Kudos to everyone

Thomas Angle and Hawgnuts have been frozen out for a day or so… Any prescription for relief? I tried to get him on with a straight typing of the URL in a different browser (Firefox – fresh install) without success.

I’ve been getting email from dan Walters and he stated that he was having problems yesterday. I’ve not encountered any problems.

I’m in… never noticed a problem. Hope everyone’s back in without a hitch. (although I’ve been piggy backing on my neighbors wireless this weekend, as my modem decided to take a break yesterday. It’s back from an extended “lunch” and all is well.)

Glad it’s working fine for so many of you. I’m experiencing incomplete DNS refresh here as well. Doug, the “prescription” is to add following record:
67.207.130.14 lumberjocks.com
to the hosts file. But I strongly recommend to remove it once the ISP starts recognizing new LJ server.
This issue should be 100% solved for everybody on Monday.

Works fine here too. Noticed things work much better through Firefox than through Internet Explorer.
I am fairly new here and have been enjoying the Lumber Jocks experience.

The last couple of days including today I have had several hours of not being able to get into the site. Getting the “system down for maintenance” message. This occurs in Firefox and Safari. I am running on TimeWarner Roadrunner cable.

that’s interesting, Betsy!
Russel, last spring Martin went away for 2 weeks and on the second day, the site went down. Ha. .. you know you are addicted when all you can think about is 14 days without LJ.com .. and the shakes start to take over.

I feel lucky to have gotten here. I am having a lot of trouble being blocked out. Sometimes I can get onto the site and when I change pages it drops off to “system down for maintenance.” There is no performance difference between Firefox or Safari for me. Just some more feedback, I know that you are working on it.

Hello Martin and all;
No problems up here in my neck of the woods with computer loading of site, just dealing with an issue of snow. Haven’t been on the computer except for early hours in the mornings this weekend and late at night….since I’ve been working outside buttoning the place up for coming white fluff stuff.
Started snowing in the early hours of morning and now we’ll be getting hammered all day till sometime this evening. Blowing gusting winds, sleet and more snow….so today I’m heading outside to start plowing out here throughout the day and then doing more clean-up on Tuesday.
Will make for some great pictures though up here in snow country….
Great upgrade here Martin and….I also use Firefox.
Thank you.
GODSPEED,
Frank
